Fundamental approach to quant questions
People are always saying “don’t lose the big picture”. But in GMAT quant in particular, sometimes the biggest concern is the opposite.
So the question is: do you have enough intensity at each step of the process of solving a quant problem.
Each stage is a hurdle on its own
Capture. Visualize. Setup. Execute. The higher your target GMAT score, the more each question demands strength at each of these stages.
Execute your initial plan step by step
If you did the first few stages right, you had a plan in place to tackle each stage of the calculation. Now it’s key to have.a laser focus on each stage. That means avoiding calculation errors, using the wrong formula or forgetting what the question was. All those are symptoms of losing focus.
Divide and conquer
Each step is like a different opponent. You have to defeat each on in sequence to win the overall war against each challenging GMAT question.
Based on experience with 100s of clients, one of the biggest obstacles to a great GMAT score is consistent energy and focus through each stage of a question.
Maximum awareness is a winning approach
It’s all part of a larger process goal on the GMAT.
If there’s one thing my clients hear me harp about during our sessions it’s: process, process, process. A big part of a winning process on the GMAT Is constant awareness of everything you already know. With hard quant problems, everything can seem scattered until you get a handle and visualize the problem. Then suddenly you can accelerate to the answer — but only if you have all the information at your fingertips the moment the light bulb goes on.
